Immediate request for medical furlough

The Honorable Tehran Prosecutor-General, Mr. Jafari Dolatabadi
The Honorable prison Judge, Mr. Khodabakhsh
The Honorable Deputy-Prosecutor
The Honorable Evin prison official in charge of Hossein Ronaghi Maleki’s file

Greetings,
With utmost respect I give my acknowledgement and gratitude to the Prosecutor-General, his staff, and prison officials who helped secure medical furlough for my son in the past.

Honorable Prosecutor-General and Honorable Judicial officials,
On May 21, 2013 I wrote a letter to you with a faxed copy to the prison official in charge of Hossein Ronaghi’s case, asking that you please extend Hossein’s medical furlough. I sent you a follow-up letter about this matter with a faxed copy on June 8, 2013. As you are aware, my son has undergone several surgeries for his kidney disease and is in need of specialized after-care for his recovery.

Honorable Prosecutor-General,
Per your order, on July 1st my son was transferred to Hasheminejad Hospital where an ultrasound scan of his kidneys was administered followed by treatment.

Honorable Prosecutor-General and Honorable Judicial officials,
In Evin prison, my son’s life is in danger and on July 1st, he sent you a letter from the hospital requesting medical furlough, which I, Seyed Ahmad Ronaghi Maleki hereby delivered to you.

Honorable Prosecutor-General,
My son’s physical condition continues to rapidly deteriorate in prison due to poor nutrition and the unsanitary environment. His life is in danger.

I am hereby making a request to Honorable Tehran Prosecutor-General, Mr. Jafari Dolatabadi, Honorable prison Judge, Mr. Khodabakhsh, Honorable Deputy-Prosecutor, and Honorable Evin prison official in charge of Hossein Ronaghi Maleki’s file, for the immediate medical release of my son from prison.

In addition my son now suffers from gastrointestinal bleeding and has been vomiting, prompting the physician to ask that he refrain from taking the needed medication for his kidney and prostate disease.

With respect,
Seyed Ahmad Ronaghi Maleki, father of student Hossein Ronaghi Maleki

On April 26, 2013, Hossein Ronaghi Maleki was hospitalized at Tehran’s Hasheminejad Hospital with internal bleeding due to his kidney disease and underwent his 6th surgery the following day. He was summoned back to prison before the presidential elections that took place in June.

Hossein Ronaghi was transferred to Hasheminejad Hospital and underwent 5 surgeries during the time he was incarcerated in Ward 350 of Evin prison.

This human rights activist went to Azerbaijan province while on furlough last year with a group of volunteers to the aid citizens of the earthquake stricken area. The group of volunteers was violently arrested and Ronaghi Maleki launched a hunger strike in protest of their mistreatment resulting in increased internal bleeding after his recent kidney surgery.

Hossein Ronaghi Maleki is among many citizens detained in the aftermath of the contested presidential elections of 2009. He was handed a 15-year prison sentence at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court presided by Judge Pir Abassi. [He was later handed an additional 2.5 years on charges stemming from his volunteer activities at Camp Sarand].
