Basma Al Jabouri, forgotten Iraqi female prisoner in Evin prison

Committee of Human Rights Reporters – Basma Al Jabouri, a former member of Iraq’s Department of Commerce and manager of Hotel Al Rasheed of Baghdad, has spent almost 15 months incarcerated in Evin prison’s women’s ward in a deteriorating and worrisome psychological state.

According to news reports, Basma Al Jabouri was detained and accused of being a spy. The Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 5 years in prison and she has spent the last year and 3 months behind bars.

According to these reports she has been deprived of communication with her children and her request to meet with the Ambassador of Iraq has been ignored by Iranian officials.

Besme Al Jabouri has previously embarked on hunger strikes in protest of her unjust treatment.
