After spending 32 months behind bars Hossein Ronaghi Maleki was released moments ago on a bail of $500,000.
Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, blogger and human rights activist who was arrested during the period of unrest following the contested political elections of 2009, was released on medical furlough after enduring 32 months of his 15-year prison sentence behind bars.
Two weeks ago Hossein had been transferred back to Ward 350 of Evin prison a week after undergoing another surgery for his kidneys despite doctor’s recommendations to spend a longer time in the hospital for a safe recovery.
This blogger and Human Rights activist has to date spent 2.5 years behind bars in Evin prison with no furlough. He was arrested on December 13, 2009 in the city of Melkan located near Tabriz and was immediately transferred to Ward 2A in Evin Prison [under control of IRGC]. He was held in solitary confinement for 10 months and subjected to intense psychological abuse and physical tortures in efforts to coerce him into making a false televised confession. Finally Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court handed Hossein Ronaghi Maleki a 15-year prison sentence.
